چکیده

Trypanosoma evansi, a blood protozoan parasite causing ‘surra’ in domestic animals is widely prevalent in different parts and is of significant economic importance in livestock production. Parasitaemia is often intermittent and is not always possible to demonstrate the parasites in blood and hence diagnosis of trypanosomosis is often difficult. The present investigation has been carried out with the aim of detecting T. evansi in cattle, buffaloes and equines in the state of Haryana by parasitological (WBF), and DNA-detecting (TE-PCR) tests. Out of 205 field blood samples tested, only 2% were positive for T. evansi by WBF while PCR using synthetic oligonulceotide primers (21 mer sense and 22 mer antisense) targeted to a repetitive nuclear DNA sequence of T. evansi detected 60.49% samples positive. Study revealed TE-PCR to be highly sensitive to the conventional parasitological method and could be used for early of diagnosis of trypanosomosis in domestic

A simple and rapid method for detection of Trypanosoma evansi in the dromedary camel using a nested polymerase chain reaction

A nested polymerase chain reaction (nPCR)-based assay, was developed and evaluated for rapid detection of Trypanosoma evansi in experimentally infected mice and naturally infected camels (Camelus dromedarius). Four oligonucleotide primers (TE1, TE2, TE3 and TE4), selected from nuclear repetitive gene of T. evansi, were designed and used for PCR amplifications. The first amplification, using a p...

An Update on Trypanosoma Infection in Livestock of Karnataka State, India

Accepted: 29/09/2015 Abstract Trypanosoma evansi and T. theileri are the two species of trypanosomes recorded from Karnataka state. The former one is the common species of livestock, dogs and zoo animals, but the latter was rarely reported from bovines. Only low infection rate of clinical cases of T. evansi in bovines was observed based on routine staining of blood smears. The efficacy of wet s...

Variable Surface Glycoprotein RoTat 1.2 PCR as a specific diagnostic tool for the detection of Trypanosoma evansi infections

BACKGROUND: Based on the recently sequenced gene coding for the Trypanosoma evansi (T. evansi) RoTat 1.2 Variable Surface Glycoprotein (VSG), a primer pair was designed targeting the DNA region lacking homology to other known VSG genes. A total of 39 different trypanosome stocks were tested using the RoTat 1.2 based Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). RESULTS: This PCR yielded a 205 bp product in ...

Epidemiological studies (parasitological, serological and molecular techniques) of Trypanosoma evansi infection in camels (Camelus dromedarius) in Egypt

Trypanosomosis in camel caused by Trypanosoma evansi is still a serious problem in camel husbandry causes considerable economic losses in many camel-rearing regions of the world. In the present study 193 camels clinically suspected for surra were examined parasitologically by Giemsa stained blood smear (GSBS) and haematocrit centrifugation technique, serologically for detection of anti-trypanos...

Prevalence of Trypanosoma Evansi in Domestic Animals in Rayalaseema Region of Andhra Pradesh in India

A survey was conducted to determine the prevalence of T. evansi in domestic animals in Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh during the year 2009-10. A total of 1166 blood and sera samples from cattle, buffaloes and sheep were collected and screened by Wet blood film examination and Indirect ELISA. Overall, 1.54 and 24.52 per cent animals were found positive for T. evansi by Wet blood film (WBF)...
